Internship Opportunities for College Students

College students may work with Roots & Wings International during the month of July as interns in Suchitoto - one of El Salvador's centers of art, culture, and political activity. This position will involve:

• Before going to El Salvador (May-June 2007)

Boston-based interns will participate in Spanish classes, cultural orientation, and environmental education in May and June 2007.

Time commitment: approximately 4 hours/week for a period of 6 weeks.

• In Suchitoto, El Salvador (July 2-22, 2007)

Interns will be involved in building efficient wood stoves, planting trees, and educating Salvadoran communities about indoor air pollution and environmental issues of deforestation and global warming. They will also develop arts activities (painting, poetry, sculpture, journaling), or video and photographic documentation of program activities.

Time commitment: approximately 40 hours/week for 3 weeks.

• After we return (August - November, 2007)

Interns will help produce gallery shows, performances, web pages, or presentations that reflect their experiences in El Salvador. These will be presented at galleries, theatres, and community centers and arts organizations in the greater Boston area, as well as online.

Time commitment: approximately 4 hours/week for 10 weeks.

Cost: Total cost is $2,000, including three weeks in El Salvador. This figure includes:

• all pre-trip classes and events
• round-trip airfare to San Salvador
• all in-country transportation
• room and board in El Salvador
• admissions to museums, archeological sites, and other cultural activities in El Salvador
• contribution of $300 to support community projects in El Salvador
• support toward the cost of post-trip arts and documentation projects
